Postpartum Massage
Postpartum massage is a wonderful tool for assisting recovery from pregnancy and birth, as well as the adjustment to a non-pregnant body and life with a newborn. Bodywork which is specifically tailored to the needs of the postpartum period can be appropriate as early as 24 hours after birth. These techniques can also be beneficial for long term re-balancing and integration at any point after pregnancy and birth, from a few months to many years later.
Postpartum massage has been shown to:
  • contribute to healing of strained muscles, organs and tissues
  • assist in realignment of spine and pelvis
  • decrease stress hormones
  • facilitate healing of scar tissue after cesarean birth
  • relieve muscle pain associated with caring for a newborn
  • provide emotional support and physical nurturing during a time of transition
  • support healthy lactation
  • relieve fatigue
Your infant is welcome at your postpartum massage appointments. If you plan to bring your baby, please let me know so that I can schedule appropriately. Please try to feed your baby shortly before your appointment. If they wake during the massage or wish to be close to you, baby is always welcome to be on the massage table with you, and you may breastfeed during your massage.

My training in Prenatal & Postpartum massage
I am trained and certified in Advanced Prenatal & Postpartum Massage by one of the mothers of prenatal massage, Kate Jordan, through her Bodywork for the Childbearing Year program. This approach incorporates many styles of therapeutic bodywork for treating common discomforts and issues throughout pregnancy, as well as in the fourth trimester. Some of my all-around favorite bodywork treatment techniques come out of this training, and although the work can be very specific and technical when needed, it is deeply relaxing and nurturing. I also incorporate additional training in pelvic rehabilitation into my postpartum sessions, as well as breast massage/breast health education for lactation support when necessary.
